  • History:-

    Chittariparamba is the name derived from the place where cultivated ‘Chittalari’ a kind of ‘ari’ (rice) familiar to the aged people.

    The land was under Kerala Simham Pazhassiraja’s rule from 15th Century. The invasion of Tippu Sulthan and the British rule over the land were influenced the land much. The English army was faced frequent set backs with Guerilla warfare of ‘Veerapazhassi’. Kannavam is a small town in Chittariparmba Grama Panchayath where a brave commander of Pazhassiraja named Sangaran Nambiar was hanged to death by the British. Kurichiar under the leadership of Thalakkal Chandu was a great help to Pazhassiraja.

    Movement againist Vannathimattu

    Decades ago, a group of social leaders named Korothan Koran, Keloth Koran, Keloth Kunhambu, Puthanpurayil Paithal, Alakkodam Kanaran Vydiar, Karayi Vasu, Kanaran Gurikkal, Karayi Kunhiraman and U.Govindan Vaidiar alleged againist ‘vannathimattu’, a superstition prevailed among the Hindus. [Vannathimattu was the ‘mattu’ (dhothi /dress) served by a female member of Vannan Community (Schedulded Caste) to the Hindus who were believed to be polluted (pula) by birth or death in their families.] The movement was broken out at Vannathimoola.

    1. Thodeekkalam Temple:-

    Thodeekkalam Sri Siva Temple is famous for its mural arts. The rare pictures of its kind are being maintained recently.


    2. Inn at Manantheri Sathram.

    An inn called ‘Sathram’ is one of the buildings of historical importance situated at Manantheri. It was built by Kaithery Madathil Kunhanandan Nambiar in 1112 for the shelter to the pedestrians who used to travel for a long distance.

    The first U.P. School at Chittariparamba was Jnanaprakasini founded by Sri. Puthusseri Venadan Achuthan Master in 1935. Later Sri. Kunhanandan Nambiar became the pioneer of the school. The school was upgraded as High School in 1966. In 1973 the school was handed over to the Government. Again it was upgraded as Higher Secondary School.

    Royal College

    A parallel college established in 1979 is the only parallel college at Chittariparamba. Arts and Commerce classes are studied upto degree levels.

    Sargam Samskarika Samithi

    A cultural centre named Sargam Samskarika Samithi consists of a group of people of innovative ideas and skills in every field is a notable institution at Chittariparamba.
